Crisis Informatics

Libraries, telecenters, and NGOs that provide access to technology often play critical roles during emergencies as front-line information and communication resources. Crisis informatics research examines how information and technology are used to prepare for, respond to, and recover from catastrophic events. How have people used public access venues to respond to disasters like the 2010 earthquake in Chile? What role do social networks and digital technologies play? TASCHA’s crisis informatics work builds on our knowledge of civil society and social infrastructure that underlies, and ultimately determines, the effectiveness of emerging technologies.
