TASCHA heads to Cape Town for ICTD 2013

The International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies and Development (ICTD) takes place in Cape Town, South Africa December 7-10, 2013. Researchers from TASCHA regularly participate in this conference, usually held every 18 months.

This year, TASCHA Director Chris Coward will present a paper at the conference based on the Global Impact Study, “The impact of public access to ICTs: Findings from a five-year, eight-country study.” The paper was authored by François Bar, Chris Coward, Lucas Koepke, Chris Rothschild, Araba Sey, and George Sciadas. Another paper based on one of Global Impact Study’s in-depth studies, “From infomediaries to infomediation at public access venues: Lessons from a three-country study” will be presented by Ricardo Ramirez, Balaji Parthasarathy, and Andy Gordon.

Many of our University of Washington friends and colleagues will also be attending and presenting their research, including Richard Anderson, Joshua Blumenstock, Gaetano Borriello, Karen Fisher, and Ricardo Gomez.

Chris will also be attending the Beyond Access 2013: Africa conference, which proceeds the ICTD conference. Beyond Access will also be participating in ICTD with an open session on Youth Engagement & Libraries and a demo on approaching ICTD via libraries.
