Data for Decision Making implementation in Yangon
From November 27 – 29, the Myanmar Book Aid and Preservation Foundation (MBPAF) will conduct the first full implementation of the Data for Decision Making curriculum in Yangon, Myanmar. Approximately 30 individuals from the following government ministries and civil society organizations will participate:
- Ministry of Information
- Ministry of Education
- Mandalay City Development Committee
- Union Civil Service Board
- Statistic Department from Institute of Economics
- Enlightened Myanmar Research Foundation
The curriculum, developed collaboratively by TASCHA, MBAPF, and other key US and Myanmar stakeholders, is designed to build the capabilities of research organizations, government ministries, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to collect, store, and use quality data for evidence-based decision making. The training will help participants not only understand each stage of the data life cycle, but learn basic questions to ask and how to define problems or needs within their community or organization.
The course is structured into three days spanning six separate modules. Each module has a specific goal and covers a topic designed to bolster individual and organizational ability in using data for decision-making.
- Module 1: Introduction to Data for Decision Making
- Module 2: Assessing Your Organization’s Data Culture
- Modules 3 and 4: Introduction to the Data Lifecycle
- Modules 5 and 6: Applying Data for Decision Making to Your Organization
TASCHA researchers Maria Garrido and Chris Rothschild will be present to better understand how the curriculum has been contextualized for Myanmar and begin assessing skill and behavior changes participants see as a result of the training.
The curriculum will be publicly available by the end of 2017.
