TASCHA is hiring a Communications Specialist!

The Communications Specialist raises the visibility of the Technology & Social Change group (TASCHA), connects and engages us meaningfully with key audiences, shapes our message development, and makes sure we have the strategy and technology to make it all happen. We are looking for a colleague with strong overall communications experience and an emphasis on messaging and digital.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy and Analysis
• Oversee development and implementation of communications strategy
• Evaluate efficacy of outreach and engagement efforts to different priority audiences

Website management
• Oversee planning and management of a website rebuild that will take place in 2018
• Manage ongoing technical website maintenance
• Manage upgrades to website functionality
• Oversee development of research project websites using other platforms (e.g. GitHub for curriculum sharing; Tableau for data)

Outreach and engagement
• Support external engagement with partners and other stakeholders
• Build capacity of researchers to communicate and engage beyond academic journals (e.g. op-eds, media interviews, digital channels)
• Raise visibility of TASCHA with broader research community  (e.g. earned media, networking, securing speaking engagements at events)

Content
• Oversee content development for main website and social media
• In collaboration with researchers, develop external messaging for research areas, projects, and outputs to increase their use and impact
• Work with iSchool communications team to amplify TASCHA’s work
• Support development efforts by tailoring communications for specific funders

Operations
• Ensure all TASCHA content complies with UW brand guidelines
• Oversee communications operations including publication production (workflows) of reports and other written outputs; managing use of CRM and Basecamp; overseeing graphic design; and coordinating with  UW communications and IT
• Ensure contractors are vetted and oriented to enable workflow for operations; manage contractors for services including UX, graphic design, editing, and web development

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s  degree, in Communications, Public Affairs, International Studies, Library Sciences, or related field
• 6-8 years of communications experience
• Strong writing skills for both technical and non-expert audiences
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience managing website development and maintenance
• Demonstrated success in delivering results and desired outcomes

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Familiarity with research communications and approaches to boost utilization
• Familiarity with field of technology and international development
• Experience successfully fostering digital community engagement
